ADR Driver Training Courses UK

ADR Driver Training Courses in the UK and Europe with Llewellyn (Safety Advisors) Europe Ltd

Llewellyn Europe Limited provide DG Driver Training Courses for all classes of dangerous goods and for tanker drivers.

What is ADR?

ADR is The Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, it is a framework agreed by all states in Europe for the safe transportation of goods that can be hazardous to man, property and the environment.  In meeting the requirements of ADR, training is required for drivers and others who are involved in moving the dangerous goods.

What Vehicle types are covered?

Until 2007, it was only applicable for drivers who were delivering goods in vehicles above 3.5 tonne GVW to have the appropriate ADR Driver Training Certificate, but now any vehicle carrying dangerous goods are now 'in-scope'.  In some circumstances this will also include the need of the vehicle to be type approved, this would be for tankers and those carrying explosives and radioactive materials.

Driver CPC

All drivers who operate vehicles in excess of 3.5 tonnes require a Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), and are required to complete 35 hours of training within a 5 year period. All of our ADR courses may be used to contribute to that 35 hours.

What is ADR Training?

A minimum 3-day course is required for most ADR training; it covers the core principles of carrying dangerous goods correctly and safely and the properties of the classes of goods being carried.

During the ADR training, students will not only be tested on their theoretical understanding, but will undergo 3 practical exercises including:

  • What to do in an emergency
  • Use of Fire extinguishers
  • Basic Emergency first aid

ADR training consists of different modules, depending on the dangerous goods being carried; all courses must include the core module and can then be supplemented by specific class or vehicle type ADR training.

The most cost effective and usual route for companies who carry many different goods in packages and bulk (tippers) is to take the following modules:

  • Core, Packages and Bulk, Classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9.

For tanker companies, such as petroleum industry, the following would be taken:

  • Core, Class 3 and Tankers.

The route taken is entirely your choice, we will be happy to discuss your specific needs.

Can any company carry out adr training?

No, only DVSA licensed companies can provide ADR training, they are continually vetted by the Scottish Qualification Authority to ensure that the basic standards are being me and the training is being conducted correctly.

Our instructors have over 100-years combined experience in the safe movement of dangerous goods, the instructors at Llewellyn Europe will ensure your staff are training at the highest standard possible for your ADR training.
